MADISON, Wis. (AP) – The state Assembly is set to pass a Republican bill this week that would allow attorneys to block court orders nullifying state laws, but it looks like it’s going to be a while before the Senate gets to it.

The bill would allow an attorney to stay a judge’s order blocking a state law by filing an appeal within 10 days. The Assembly is scheduled to vote on the measure Thursday.

The bill’s prospects in the Senate are unclear, though.

A spokeswoman for Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said senators are focused on the state budget and won’t consider the bill before the Legislature takes its summer recess at the end of June. She said Republican Senate leaders may consider the proposal after lawmakers reconvene this fall.
