MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A Wisconsin legislator is pressing for a law that would require anyone charged with child molestation to stay away from the alleged victim.

The bipartisan legislation from state Reps. Cory Mason and Thomas Weatherston would ban anyone charged with sexually assaulting a child from being around where the victim lives, attends school or works.

Mason unveiled the proposal on Monday in Racine, where a 60-year-old man was charged with first-degree sexual assault of his 8-year-old neighbor in February and was then released on bond.

Mason said his bill would prevent young victims from being harmed further.
