The proposed Washington sequester – or automatic federal spending cuts – will hit Wisconsin’s judicial system in the pocketbook.
The state stands to lose about $216,000 this year in justice assistance grants that are used to help pay for prosecution and other expenses related to law enforcement. The proposed sequester is expected to take place Friday.
According to a White House news release on the expected effects of the cuts in Wisconsin, justice assistance grants that are at risk “support law enforcement, prosecution and courts, crime prevention and education, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, and crime victim and witness initiatives.”
