MONROE, Wis. (AP) – A Green County judge has decided to suppress some statements to investigators made by a man accused of killing three of his children in a house fire.

But, attorneys from both sides say it may not alter the outcome of Armin Wand’s upcoming trial.

Judge Thomas Vale ruled Wednesday statements made by Wand during the second day of a three-day interrogation were not voluntary because detectives made promises of leniency if Wand cooperated.

A criminal complaint alleges Wand told authorities he set the fire to collect life insurance on his wife and children. Sharon Wand escaped the Sept. 7 fire with their 2-year-old daughter. The State Journal says Wand’s trial is set to begin Feb. 23 at the Lafayette County Courthouse in Darlington.

Wand’s 18-year-old brother, Jeremy, is also charged in the case.
