CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) – The family of one of the four people who died in a 2011 Chippewa County boat crash would receive more than $1 million in a settlement expected to be finalized Friday.
Luke Pohl and three others died in a July 2011 nighttime boat crash on the Chippewa River in Lake Hallie. Pohl’s wife would receive about $650,000. Her two young sons would each receive $100,000 when they reach age 20. Pohl’s attorneys would receive about $430,000.
Chippewa County Judge James Isaacson could approve the settlement Friday. Seven plaintiffs, including survivors of the boat crash, are splitting $3.5 million, which is the limit of the policies held by the two men operating the boat.
The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram says settlements for the other plaintiffs are pending.
