MADISON, Wis. (AP) — One of two lawsuits filed by a group of Republicans over redistricting in Wisconsin has been withdrawn.

An attorney for the group on Friday asked that the case filed on Nov. 21 with the state Supreme Court be withdrawn. The request comes two days after the court gave until Tuesday for the Republican, and Democrats who sought to intervene, to answer questions related to the case.

The Republicans have filed a nearly identical lawsuit in Waukesha County which remains pending.

They are asking the court to appoint a three-judge panel to determine whether new legislative districts favoring Republicans should take effect immediately for recall elections or in the fall.

Republicans want them to take effect now to make it more difficult for four recall efforts targeting GOP incumbents to succeed.
