MARINETTE, Wis. (AP) — A former teacher at Wausaukee High School has been convicted of sexual assault.
Thirty-five-year-old Kurt Edward Kostelecky of Marinette pleaded no contest Thursday to second-degree sexual assault of a child. Eleven other charges were dismissed but read in, meaning they can still be considered at sentencing.
According to a WLUK-TV report, prosecutors accused Kostelecky of having a sexual relationship with a girl during the 2008-09 school year when she was a high school freshman.
A message left with Kostelecky’s public defender Saturday was not immediately returned.
The sexual-assault charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
Kostelecky is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 29.
