MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker plans to sign his budget bill into law this weekend in Green Bay.
His office said Thursday the signing will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at Badger Sheet Metal Works. The event is open only to the press.
The $66 billion two-year spending plan reshapes nearly every corner of state government to fit Walker’s conservative agenda.
The budget bill that generated weeks of protests passed both houses of the Legislature last week along strict party lines.
Democrats have criticized it as an attack on the middle class. They say it cuts money for schools and the poor even as it extends tax breaks to corporations.
Republicans say it’s a responsible approach to solving a $3 billion budget shortfall without raising taxes.
