WAUPACA, Wis. (AP) — A Waupaca man has been sentenced to two years behind bars for perjury in a homicide case.

A jury last month found Walter Engel guilty of making false statements under oath during a John Doe proceeding into the circumstances surrounding the death of Kevin McCoy.

Rory Kuenzi was found guilty of fatal hit-and-run and vehicular homicide while under the influence in McCoy’s death. Engel testified at the John Doe hearing that Kuenzi and another man, Adam Klotzbuecher, never stopped after McCoy was struck and killed. But, Klotzbuecher testified he helped Kuenzi carry McCoy’s body off Highway 54 before leaving the scene.

Waupaca County Circuit Court Judge Phillip Kirk also sentenced Engel Monday to three years extended supervision.
