CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) — Chippewa Falls police say three teenagers have come forward and confessed to entering two heavy construction sites where they got inside equipment and caused about $11,000 worth of damage.
Authorities say the three teens are between 14 and 15 years old. They accessed a construction site on April 20 and at the city’s wastewater treatment plant on April 23. Both times, they used the heavy construction equipment in duels, smashing them against each other. One of the backhoes became entangled in live overhead power lines.
One of the boys’ parents heard about the incident and suspected their son, who confessed.
Police tell WQOW-TV that alcohol was involved and the boys were able to start up all the machines because the keys had been left in them.
The case has been referred to Chippewa County Juvenile Court.
