Columnist seeks out good deals for law offices

Although I’ve been associated with Wisconsin Law Journal for more than a decade now, I’ve never ventured into the waters of “columnist” until now. But I like the idea. It puts me in the same category as one of my heroines, Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City.

We have lots in common. We’re both short. We both like cosmopolitans and shoes. We both…

OK, we don’t have much else in common. I’m married with kids and I’m not glamorous.

Also, I would never, never in a million years, spend several hundred dollars on Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks. I am a Midwesterner by birth after all – practical to the bone.

Plus, I was raised by parents who were kids during the Depression, and who taught me the value of a buck.

Don’t get me wrong; I am not cheap. There’s a big difference between me, and those who use calculators to leave only 15 percent for a tip and not a penny more. I don’t re-use tea bags. I flush every time. I don’t like Wal-Mart much.

But I do love a bargain. Forget rollercoasters; to me, the greatest recent thrill I’ve had was finding a Coach purse at Nordstrom Rack in Chicago for $89, instead of the $200-plus they’re asking at Macy’s. (It’s purple suede and absolutely adorable!)

It occurs to me that I’m not the only one who loves a deal, and that some of my sister and brother bargain hunters are in the legal field, either as lawyers or law firm administrators. This is a column where we’ll look for good deals, good products and services, and good ideas for law offices.

I’ll be relying upon you to help me out. Give me a call at (800) 357-6476 or e-mail me at [email protected] with your money-saving ideas.

I’ll conclude this introductory column by stating that I’m very much looking forward to seeing the Sex and the City movie, coming out next month. But rest assured, I’ll be attending a matinée, and I’ll sneak a bottled water in my (adorable!) Coach purse.
