Nothing mechanical about diversity at Tweet Garot

Tweet Garot has striven hard to work with local businesses, encouraging both the formation of a diverse workforce and giving to charities.

The construction contractor based in De Pere, which performs design and engineering services, mechanical, fabrication and other services, was formed in the late 1970s with the merger of two plumbing and heating firms and a sheet-metal company. The company works in a variety of industries and prides itself on being the official mechanical contractor for Lambeau Field.

Tweet Garot’s commitment to giving back is evident at the company. The firm gives 1 percent of its gross margin to Green Bay-area municipalities every year, and has given away more than $1 million worth of its profits over the past decade.

Beyond taking part in volunteering drives, company employees exhibit the spirit of giving in various other ways. Tweet Garot consistently ranks among the top 15 firms in the area, regardless of size, for employee contributions to the United Way.

Through the first half of 2017, Tweet Garot has provided employees with nearly 1,000 hours of paid time off to volunteer at nonprofit groups, including Habitat for Humanity and Feeding America. Company executives also serve in leadership positions on local boards and nonprofit groups.

The company has also made a strong commitment to working with other Wisconsin firms on projects. More than 75 percent of the work the company has performed over the past five years has been in Wisconsin, and 60 percent of the company’s vendors and subcontractors are from Wisconsin.

Tweet Garot is also working to support newcomers to the industry.

The company is one of the few to sit on a committee that aims to support veterans in the piping industry by hiring vets for apprenticeships.

The company’s employees sit on nearly every apprenticeship committee for area sheet metal, steamfitter and plumbing unions. In the past year, the company has visited 30 high schools and technical schools to drum up interest in the industry.
