MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A state appeals court has upheld the conviction of a man serving a 40-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to fatally shooting a Superior man in 2014.

The 3rd District Court of Appeals on Tuesday upheld the felony murder conviction of 20-year-old Chance Andrews.

He pleaded guilty to felony murder in the shooting death of Garth Velin during a drug-related attempted robbery at his home.

The appeals court rejected Andrews’ arguments that prosecutors for the state violated a plea agreement and that his attorney at the trial was ineffective.

Four others were charged with crimes related to Velin’s shooting.
