MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Milwaukee plans to begin offering early voting on Oct. 10 along with extended evening and weekend hours.

The executive director of the city’s Election Commission announced the plan Thursday in an email to The Associated Press. Neil Albrecht says the plan may be revised, but the intent is to offer early voting for four weeks between Oct. 10 and Nov. 4.

The time frame for early voting has expanded thanks to a federal judge’s ruling striking down a state law that limited early voting only to weekdays in the two weeks preceding an election. Before that, the earliest voting could have begun was Oct. 24.

Albrecht says there will be sites on Milwaukee’s south and north sides in the first two weeks. The last two weeks will be downtown.
