Racine man convicted in friend’s death gets life in prison

Listen to this articleRACINE, Wis. (AP) — A Racine man convicted in the fatal shooting of his friend has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Twenty-eight-year-old Jacob Rogers was sentenced Friday, after he was convicted in February of first-degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. The Journal Times reports Racine County Circuit Judge Michael Piontek said the life term is without the chance of release or parole.
According to a criminal complaint, a dispute over money motivated Rogers to shoot 27-year-old Andrew Jones Jr. of Kenosha in March 2015.
Assistant State Public Defender Helmi Hamad argued in favor of Rogers’ release after spending 20 years in prison first.
