La CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — Prosecutors have accused a La Crosse man of threatening to hire a hit man to kill his roommate.
The La Crosse Tribune reported Friday that Rick Lofts was charged with felony intimidation of a victim and felony bail jumping Thursday.
According to court documents, Lofts was arrested after he got into a fight with his roommate on March 15. He began texting the woman the next day after he was released from jail despite a no-contact order and suggested he was going to take out a hit on her. The woman reported the texts to Lofts’ probation officer on Wednesday.
Lofts’ attorney argues the complaint should be dismissed because the texts didn’t dissuade the woman from contacting police.
