STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) — A central Wisconsin man is going to jail for falsely reporting a capsized boat in the Wisconsin River.
Twenty-year-old Zachary Linzmeier pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges, including obstructing police. The Stevens Point man will spend 30 days in jail and serve two years of probation.
Linzmeier told authorities last October that a boat was stuck in the Verso dam and capsized, spilling a number of people into the river. In addition the response from law enforcement, a dive team was called from Marathon County as well as two medical helicopters. Canadian National train traffic was also interrupted on a railroad bridge near the river.
Stevens Point Journal Media says if he violates the probation, Linzmeier could be sent to jail for nine months.
