Assembly sends bill ending secret investigations to Walker

Listen to this articleMADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Assembly has sent a bill eliminating secret John Doe investigations into political misconduct to Gov. Scott Walker.
The Assembly on Wednesday cast a largely procedural vote to get the bill to Walker. The Senate passed it around 1 a.m. Wednesday and the Assembly had passed it on Tuesday.
Republicans are united in support of scaling back John Doe probes, while Democrats voted together against the measure. They say not allowing the investigations will lead to more corruption going undetected.
Republicans say prosecutors can use other tools like grand juries.
Walker has indicated his support for the bill in general, but not said definitively that he will sign it into law.
Walker was involved with two John Doe probes but wasn’t charged in either one.
