ALLOUEZ, Wis. (AP) — A village in the Green Bay metropolitan area is making it harder for registered sex offenders to move into the community.

Press-Gazette Media reports the Allouez Village Board voted Tuesday to bar sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of any school, park or other place where children gather. That covers about 95 percent of the village.

Allouez residents and elected leaders have said more registered sex offenders are moving to the area as the city of Green Bay rejects residency requests. Green Bay has had the tougher restrictions in place for years.

Allouez previously prohibited sex offenders from congregating at one residence or loitering near where children gather.

The village president says he hopes the new ordinance will spur state lawmakers to consider the relocation issue.
