OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A judge has upheld an order that a fired Neenah police officer repay unemployment benefits provided by the city.
Winnebago County Judge John Jorgensen on Wednesday affirmed a panel’s findings that Renee Dubinski was not eligible for unemployment benefits.
Dubinski was fired last year after the Neenah Police Commission determined she violated department policy by having a relationship with a man reputedly involved in criminal behavior.
The state denied unemployment benefits for Dubinski. But an administrative law judge granted the benefits on appeal, saying her firing was not for misconduct connected with her work.
But the Wisconsin Labor and Industry Review Commission overturned that decision and ordered Dubinski to repay nearly $8,000 in benefits.
Dubinski can appeal the ruling. Post-Crescent Media reports she could not be reached for comment.
