MILWAUKEE (AP) — Two students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee are suing the UW System’s board of regents, accusing officials of refusing to recognize the results of student elections.

Taylor Scott and Samir Siddique filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the board of regents and other UW officials. It accuses them of seizing control over student government rather than recognize the result of April 2013 election.

The plaintiffs say UW-Milwaukee chancellor Mike Lovell and others have conspired to eliminate the student government and seize its powers for themselves. The students are asking a judge to temporarily prevent the university from taking certain actions on behalf of student groups that the plaintiffs allege have been stripped of power.

Messages left with UW-Milwaukee and the UW System board of regents Wednesday were not immediately returned.
