MILWAUKEE (AP) – Milwaukee County prosecutors plan to file charges next week against a man whom police shot and wounded in a children’s hospital after he allegedly brandished a semi-automatic weapon.
Assistant prosecutor Kent Lovern said Friday his office expects to charge 22-year-old Ashanti Hendricks in the first part of next week. Lovern declined to say what charges are being considered.
Police say they shot Hendricks twice in the arm Thursday. They were responding to a tip that Hendricks was at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and likely armed. Hendricks had a warrant out for being a felon in possession of a weapon.
Police say Hendricks initially complied with officers’ requests to come with them, but then he bolted down an empty hallway, where officers shot him.
It wasn’t immediately clear Friday if Hendricks has an attorney.
