WHITEHALL, Wis. (AP) – A woman accused in the death of her boyfriend’s young daughter has entered an insanity plea in Trempealeau County.
Amanda Butts was babysitting 22-month-old Alexis Behlke in June when the toddler stopped breathing. An autopsy showed the child died from a combination of oxycodone, a painkiller, an antihistamine, such as Benadryl, and an anti-depressant.
Prosecutors say Butts told police the child was whining and wouldn’t sleep, so she gave the child drugs. The 22-year-old Butts was watching the child while her boyfriend was at work. WQOW-TV says Butts is charged with first-degree reckless homicide and three other felonies.
Butts’ attorney, Thomas Bilski, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
