SPARTA, Wis. (AP) – A Sparta man has been sentenced to five years in prison for driving drunk in a car crash that killed his brother.

Jason Schodeberg told a judge in Monroe County Thursday he doesn’t remember who was behind the wheel before the crash in July 2009. Thirty-year-old Glenn Schodeberg died when their car rolled over in the town of Jefferson. Authorities say Jason Schodeberg fled from the scene after the crash and later denied that he was involved.

In May 2012, Jason Schodeberg’s ex-girlfriend told authorities that he had confessed to driving drunk and crashing the car. The La Crosse Tribune says Schodeberg told Judge Mark Goodman that he’s ready to deal with his drug and alcohol addictions that have played a role in his criminal record, including the latest conviction for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
