SHAWANO, Wis. (AP) — A Shawano County man accused of killing his father has entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease.
The defense for Joshua Johnson called two doctors to the stand Tuesday in Shawano County Circuit Court. They testified Johnson suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. They said Johnson told them he was hearing voices and getting messages from his television screen telling him to kill his father.
The court accepted Johnson’s plea. A criminal complaint says Johnson shot, stabbed and beat his 53-year-old father, Donald Johnson, last February.
WAOW-TV reports prosecutors recommend he be institutionalized for life. The defense recommends he be institutionalized, treated and released. Another hearing will be held after social services reviews the case.
