WHITEHALL, Wis. (AP) — A Galesville man has been sentenced to seven years behind bars for a bar fight and a drunken driving crash that killed his brother.
Thirty-one-year-old James Pederson will serve the time at the end of an earlier three-year sentence for armed robbery.
According to court records, Pederson and his 19-year-old brother, Dillon, got in a fight at Tom’s Bar in Galesville on Nov. 28 and beat two men. James got behind the wheel and the two fled.
Their car crashed in the town of Trempealeau. A sheriff’s deputy who responded to the crash said he found James cradling his brother in the passenger seat of the heavily damaged car. Dillon was pronounced dead at the scene. The La Crosse Tribune reports Pederson told the judge Tuesday the fatal crash will haunt him for the rest of his life.
