The city of Milwaukee on Friday filed a lawsuit in Milwaukee County Circuit Court against four companies for damages related to terra cotta installed on the exterior of City Hall during the building’s restoration project between 2006 and 2008, according to a city of Milwaukee news release.

The lawsuit was filed against Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc., Engberg Anderson, Inc. and Bloom Companies LLC, for negligence and breach of contract, and according to the release, the general contractor, J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc. for breach of contract and warranty.

The city found, according to the release, the terra cotta units have been cracking and deteriorating since the project was completed in 2008. The city is still concluding its inspection to determine the cost of damages, according to the release.
