MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Debate of Gov. Scott Walker’s two-year budget begins on Tuesday in the state Capitol under increased security.
Police are preparing for large crowds, similar to what was seen in February and March when the Legislature took up Walker’s proposal taking away collective bargaining rights from most public workers.
That bill remains tied up in the courts, but it may get added back to the budget this week by Republicans who control the Legislature.
Assembly Democrats planned to discuss their strategy for budget debate on Monday. Capitol police also planned to talk Monday about their security plans.
Protesters have been camping on the street outside the Capitol for more than a week and staging demonstrations nearly every day.
