Nicole Talbott Settle - Godfrey & Kahn

For more than 25 years, Nicole Talbott Settle has invested her time, creativity and energy into making the team stronger at Godfrey & Kahn. In her role as a paralegal and litigation technology analyst, she has assisted attorneys in all phases of the litigation process with grace and detail.

Settle has been fortunate to have parents that have rallied for her. She said that they taught her integrity, hard work, kindness, generosity and the value of family. Each of these things has been critical to her success.

“These core values establish trust, help in providing high quality legal work and allow me to connect to my community and have a good work/life balance,” she said. “I am honored to be recognized for the Unsung Hero award. It means the world to me to be valued by those that I work with for my knowledge of the law and commitment to our team, cases and clients. I am very fortunate to work with many talented and brilliant individuals who make up our team. I am grateful for the leadership within our firm and on our litigation team.”

Josh Johanningmeier reiterates Settle’s dedication to the firm and her team.

“Nicole is tireless in her commitment to client service, both on specific cases and generally by staying up to date with technology and administrative developments in the courts,” said Johanningmeier, chair of the firm’s Products Liability and Torts Practice Group. “Nicole’s trial experience over the past 25 years means she has seen it all, is always prepared and she is unflappable under pressure.”

When asked what advice she has for up-and-coming legal professionals, Settle shared that flexibility, knowledge and understanding are key.

“Be knowledgeable about the rules … and understand the court system. Be flexible and seize the opportunity to learn as much as you can. Understand each attorney that you work for and their personal style. Actively listen and support your colleagues. Express appreciation, be kind, polite and build relationships within your team.”
