When Carlos A. Ortiz’s wife went into labor with their third child, the paramedics did not make it in time for the big event. So, Ortiz stepped away from his usual role as a legal advisor and litigator and delivered his daughter.
Despite that adventure, he has no plans to leave the practice of law and pursue a new career in medicine. Since Ortiz was a child, he has been focused on becoming a lawyer. He enjoyed arguing fine points with his parents and teachers so much that someone suggested he become a lawyer.
Despite financial challenges, the son of two immigrants remained focused on his goal and attained academic scholarships sufficient to cover his undergraduate work and law school.
Today, he practices litigation and also provides counseling to business clients at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP. He also serves as secretary for the Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyers Association, promoting diversity in the law.
