When Grant Huebner graduated from Marquette University Law School in 2002, he never imagined that a few years later he would be on the verge of wrapping up the successful prosecution of 15 members of the Simon City Royals, a Chicago-base street gang.
Huebner, 31, has spent the last 18 months working with several state and federal agencies on the case, as part of his work in the High Intensity Drug Area (HIDA) unit with the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
“It’s been my life for the last year-and-a-half and after this one is over, we’ll start on another,” said Huebner, who began his career as a community prosecutor. “I never thought I’d be doing this kind of stuff already.”
Overall, the three-year investigation in the gang’s activity in Milwaukee has resulted in 33 state and six federal convictions.
