The Wisconsin Supreme Court will decide Thursday whether to impose reciprocal discipline on an attorney whose New York license was suspended last year.
Ismael Gonzalez’s license to practice law in New York was suspended in 2015 for one year over 11 counts of misconduct involving five clients. The charges ranged from neglecting a client’s bankruptcy case for 21 months to failing to file federal and state income tax returns for five years.
As a result, he was also barred from practicing before the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the Board of Immigration Appeals and the immigration courts.
Gonzalez graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1981. His license is currently suspended for failing to pay dues, according to the OLR and Wisconsin State Bar websites. The Wisconsin Supreme Court has not previously disciplined Gonzalez.
