John Voelker, Wisconsin’s director of State Courts, has resigned to take a job as deputy secretary of the state’s Department of Employee Trust Fund.

Voelker, who has been the courts’ director since 2003, starts the new position Monday, according to a news release from the ETF. He will be in charge of day-to-day operations for large portions of the agency’s work.

Voelker was not immediately available for comment Thursday.

In his time with the courts, he oversaw many of the administrative duties to run the courts system.

Earlier this year, Voelker had started to ramp up his efforts to get more money for the court’s budget in the next biennium.

The State Courts office is accepting applications through Aug. 29 for Voelker’s replacement. The annual salary for the position is $139,059.
