The Wisconsin Supreme Court has suspended a New York attorney’s license to practice in Wisconsin for one year.

Thursday’s discipline stems from Ismael Gonzalez’s year-long suspension from practicing in New York. The Office of Lawyer Regulation filed a complaint against him in May for failing to report that suspension.

The Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division suspended Gonzalez’s license in 2015 over 11 counts of misconduct involving five clients. The charges ranged from neglecting a client’s bankruptcy case for 21 months and verbally abusing a client, to failing to file federal and state income tax returns for five years.

As a result, Gonzalez was also barred from practicing before the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the Board of Immigration Appeals and the immigration courts.

The justices on Thursday suspended Gonzalez’s license for one year and ordered that his license remain suspended after a year if he continues to fail to pay bar dues.
