MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A 55-year-old Madison man has been charged in connection with a bomb threat that led to an evacuation at the state Capitol and delayed debate on the Wisconsin budget.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports Daniel Veerhusen appeared in court Monday. Authorities say he used a prepaid phone to make the threat that police learned of July 8. According to the criminal complaint, call data showed that the first call Veerhusen made using the phone was to a number in his name.
According to the complaint, Veerhusen told police he made the threat because he wanted the budget to get settled to “see what the medical benefits were gonna be like.” The debate was delayed two hours by the evacuation.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Veerhusen has an attorney.
