SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) — A judge is set to hand down a verdict in the case of a 19-year-old accused of bludgeoning his father to death in a Sheboygan apartment.
Sheboygan Press Media reports the judge’s verdict is expected Friday morning. The defendant was 17 at the time of the incident, and was charged with first-degree intentional homicide in January 2014. He waived his right to a jury trial this month.
The defendant testified Thursday that he beat his father on the head with a mallet. He said his father was angry at him for smoking marijuana and slapped him, and moments later pushed him in the shoulder before the defendant grabbed the mallet off the counter.
A defense attorney has asked the judge to consider acquittal on the basis of self-defense, or a reduced charge.
