Wisconsin may have failed to pass the Center for Public Integrity’s judicial financial disclosure test, but at least it’s in good company.
Forty-three states, including Wisconsin, earned a failing grade in the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit news organization’s evaluation of disclosure rules for judges in the highest state courts nationwide.
Justice Annette Ziegler was singled out for three instances, in particular.
But despite its failing grade, Wisconsin tied with Tennessee for 14th place overall. The state was lauded for seeking information in each of the center’s grading categories, including asking for disclosure of all gifts worth more than $50 and asking about commercial clients and tenants, along with business partners for any businesses owned by a judge’s family.
