WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) – The attorney for a Wisconsin monk accused of trying to abduct four girls in Illinois says he hopes a plea deal can be reached in the case.

Defense attorney Robert Hauser tells the Daily Herald he will speak with prosecutors in the case against 57-year-old Thomas Chmura. Chmura is a former monk at the St. Benedict’s Abbey in Benet Lake, Wis.

A hearing was scheduled Tuesday in the case but was postponed to Oct. 16. Chmura is scheduled to go to trial Nov. 1.

Chmura is free on $50,000 bond and has pleaded not guilty. He lives with his father in the Chicago suburbs and must wear an ankle-monitoring device.
