Wis. company sued over death of toddler

HARTLAND, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin company has halted production of the alcohol wipes suspected of causing the death of a Texas toddler.

Triad Group of Hartland says it’s discontinued manufacturing the wipes and swabs that were the subject of a recent voluntary recall. Triad is being sued by a Texas couple who say an alcohol wipe was the likely source of a bacterial infection that killed their son, Harry Kothari, last November.

The boy was in the hospital to have a benign cyst removed from his brain. The family’s attorney, Donald Kidd of Houston, said the Food and Drug Administration had alerted Triad to sterilization problems at its manufacturing facility as early as 2009.

According to the Journal Sentinel, Triad owner Eric Haertie said the production suspension may only be short term.
