NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A New York man and a New Jersey woman are accused of playing roles in a conspiracy to distribute dangerous designer drugs, including a synthetic opioid that authorities say is several times more potent than morphine.
Federal prosecutors say 34-year-old Brian Parker, of Long Island City, New York, and 29-year-old Victoria Koleski, of Farmingdale, New Jersey, conspired to distribute the drugs. Both were arrested Tuesday and were to make their initial court appearances later in the day.
Parker is alleged to have made and distributed the drugs through two online companies he controlled. The substances he is believed to have sold were linked to an overdose death in May 2016 in Madison.
Authorities say Koleski was among those who helped Parker distribute the drugs.
It wasn’t known Tuesday if Parker or Koleski have retained attorneys.
