MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A state appeals court has upheld an $813,700 judgment against a Green Bay company that accepted more than a million dollars from Gov. Scott Walker’s troubled economic development agency.
The 3rd District Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that a Brown County judge properly awarded the money to Green Box NA Green Bay LLC investor Marco Araujo. He had alleged that Green Box founder and chairman Ronald Van Den Heuvel used misrepresentations and false promises to coax him into investing $600,000 in the company.
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. gave Green Box $1.2 million in grants and loans without adequately looking into the company. Van Den Heuvel owed millions in legal judgments to banks, business partners, state tax officials and even a jeweler.
Green Box’s attorney didn’t immediately return a message.
