MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A state appeals court says a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman with a live snake was properly convicted.

A jury found John Bullock of Altoona and Damonta Jones of Eau Claire each guilty of two counts of first-degree sexual assault in 2011. According to court documents, a woman told police she attended a gathering at Jones’ home in 2010 when Jones held her down and Bullock sexually assaulted her. She heard someone say something about getting Jones’ snake and then felt a sharp pain.

Bullock argued the evidence was too thin to support his conviction. But the 3rd District Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday a nurse found bruises on the woman and the jury was entitled to decide what to believe.

Bullock’s attorney didn’t immediately return a message.
