EAST TROY, Wis. (AP) – An East Troy woman has pleaded guilty in the deaths of her twin baby girls who drowned in a bathtub while she slept.
Melody Butt pleaded guilty to two counts of felony child neglect. A complaint says Butt ran a bath for the 11-month-old twins and then fell asleep in her bedroom on Sept. 22. According to the complaint, she woke up when a roommate came home and found the twins in an overflowing bath.
Two misdemeanor counts were dismissed Thursday.
WITI-TV reports she is scheduled to be sentenced July 31.
She is out on bond and is under a no contact order with her other children unless under supervision of authorities.
She could face up to 50 years in prison and a $200,000 fine.
