MADISON, Wis. (AP) – The Wisconsin Judicial Commission could decide Friday whether to take any action against 29 state circuit court judges who signed petitions to recall Gov. Scott Walker.
The Landmark Legal Foundation filed a complaint against the judges after a Gannett Wisconsin Media investigation revealed the judges’ signatures. The judges say they have a constitutional right to sign the petitions and that the Wisconsin Code of Judicial Conduct does not specifically address recall petitions.
The code bars judges from supporting political parties or candidates.
The Landmark complaint alleges the judges’ signatures constitute “inherently political activity.”
Commission executive director Jim Alexander told Gannett the issue would come up at the panel’s next meeting. That meeting is scheduled Friday.
