Law Librarian Award Winner

Diane Duffey
Director of Research Services,
Habush Habush & Rottier, SC

When someone at one of Habush Habush & Rottier’s 13 offices needs to know where to find the information that’s essential to a case, they call Diane Duffey, the firm’s only law librarian. It’s a role she has enjoyed for more than 11 years.

“There’s always something new to investigate,” Duffey says, adding that she takes pleasure in the research and problem solving.

She adds that she likes being a part of a “special library,” dedicated to a specific purpose. Despite narrowing her focus to a law library, she engages in a wide variety of research.

“It’s always different here,” she says. “The research projects are always different and challenging. I’m always learning something. I like that.”

She manages the firm’s library and legal research services contract. Beyond her research and reference duties, she also is working on the firm’s Intranet.

In addition to her role as librarian, she also is a member of the firm’s IT committee where colleagues say “her judgment and ideas are valued.”

Duffey also is actively involved in the Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin. She is a past president of the organization and currently co-chairs the membership committee.

“Diane performs all of her duties with energy, professionalism and she is dedicated to making sure
the assignments given to her are completed on time, every time. Diane is very skilled at what she does. She is really put to the test at trial time, when everything by everybody seems to be needed immediately. Diane passes the tests every time. She is a huge asset to our firm,” writes Kenneth Jarvis,
Habush Habush & Rottier, SC.

Law Librarians – Honorees

Jennifer Dedolph
Senior Information
Specialist, Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren SC

“Jennie is one of the mainstays of the Information Resource Center. She has an uncanny ability to
extract exactly what an attorney needs when they contact her. … She also excels at thinking of creative ways to locate information that the ‘Google’ generation would never think of. Her ability to train young attorneys in researching practically, quickly and accurately is exceptional,” writes Carol Bannen, Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren SC.

Carol Hassler
Webmaster/Cataloger,
Wisconsin State Law Library

“The State Law Library’s recently redesigned and greatly enhanced Web site was released to the public on May 11, 2009, to rave reviews — all thanks to Carol Hassler. Carol led a team of four staff members through a year-long redesign process, using her considerable Web design expertise to allow the library to take a considerable step forward in Web services,” writes Jane Colwin, Julie Tessmer and Amy Crowder, Wisconsin State Law Library.
