LEADER IN THE LAW – Jeff Peelen – Quarles & Brady

Jeff Peelen - Quarles & Brady

Jeff Peelen approaches his cases like a chess player — he’s always thinking several steps ahead.

Peelen, a partner in Quarles & Brady’s Public Finance Practice Group, has established a national reputation in the field. He is a frequent speaker who regularly hosts industry events, including the Bond Dealers of America’s annual “Heads of Public Finance” conference.

His engagement in the field has allowed him to build a thriving practice that includes transactions throughout Wisconsin and across the country. Peelen has been a key driver of the growth in Quarles & Brady’s Public Finance Practice Group.

He is also genuinely interested in the well-being of other people and always gives a helpful mix of positive reinforcement and direct, practical feedback. His leadership style is participatory and collaborative, working with teams across offices and practice groups to serve clients while promoting his team members’ growth and development.

His personal approach to team building was especially important after the pandemic hit in March 2020. Peelen continually reached out to team members to ensure everyone remained connected and was able to adapt to new work challenges.

“In addition to his devotion to his teammates, Jeff tirelessly pursues client service,” Scott Bussen, senior manager of communications for Quarles & Brady, said. “He works on some of the group’s most challenging matters, and his client development efforts generate work for numerous other lawyers and staff. Jeff’s clients not only value his legal insight and experience, but they also appreciate that he takes the time to truly understand their business and requirements.”

One of the biggest challenges in his job, Peelen said, is “doing the work at a high level while making time to build relationships, both internally and externally.”
