Attorney General Josh Kaul announced Friday the appointment of Steve Wagner to serve as the Division of Law Enforcement Services (DLES) administrator. Prior to the appointment, Wagner led the Training and Standards Bureau. Wagner will continue to lead the Training and Standards Bureau as Interim Director.

“Steven has done a great job leading the Division of Law Enforcement Services on an interim basis,” said Kaul in a statement. “I’m confident that as DLES Administrator, he will continue to serve Wisconsin law enforcement, and all Wisconsinites, with distinction.”

After he joined the Wisconsin Department of Justice to serve as the Director of the Training and Standards Bureau in April of 2020, Wagner was appointed to serve as Acting Administrator for the Division of Law Enforcement Services on Dec. 19.

Before his Department of Justice appointments, Wagner was a member of the city of Racine Police Department for 29 years, retiring as the commander of the Training and Recruitment Unit. He also has degrees from Marquette University, Concordia University and Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
