Judge Shelley Grogan has entered the race for District II Court of Appeals.

She announced her candidacy on Tuesday morning, along with endorsements from Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley and former Justice Dan Kelly.

Grogan now serves as the permanent judicial assistant to Bradley and is the current sitting judge in the City of Muskego. She was previously a clerk for various appellate court judges and has more than 25 years of experience in Wisconsin courts. Grogan is also an adjunct professor of law at Marquette University Law School.

In a statement, Grogan said she’s running because the people of Wisconsin’s District II “deserve a judge who will always stand up for the rule of law and protect our Constitutional freedoms.” She said she’ll apply the law as written and respect the role of the judicial branch to act independently and impartially.

Bradley said she’s worked with Grogan for more than five years and is confident Grogan will faithfully defend the Constitution and uphold the rule of law.

Kelly called Grogan unfailingly insightful and precise in his endorsement.

Grogan is challenging Judge Jeffrey Davis, who was appointed to the Court of Appeals by Gov. Tony Evers in September 2019. Both have submitted the paperwork necessary to appear on the ballot, according to the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

The election is scheduled for April 6.
