Legal Action of Wisconsin has moved to a new office in Milwaukee.

The nonprofit firm now occupies the top two floors of the Clark Building at 633 W. Wisconsin Ave. The new space houses the more than 70 employees who work in Legal Action’s Milwaukee-area service-delivery office and administrative headquarters.

Deedee Peterson, Legal Action executive director, said the close proximity to the Milwaukee County Courthouse and other groups make the new site a good fit. The new construction makes the new office easier to enter and lease than the old one, on West Wells Street, and the 23,200-square-foot office has more space for staff. Peterson said the firm had outgrown its space on Wells.

Legal Action is now conducting business remotely because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Peterson said she’s looking forward to having staff under one roof again once in-person work resumes and to welcoming the public into the new space once it’s safe.

Legal Action provides free legal services to low-income people and families who could not otherwise afford help. The firm serves 39 southern Wisconsin counties and has offices in six cities. With 80 staff attorneys and about 50 support staff, it’s the largest nonprofit law firm in Wisconsin.
