Burnett County’s special prosecutor is taking on the role of district attorney for the county. Gov. Tony Evers announced James Rennicke’s appointment as Burnett County district attorney on Tuesday.
Rennicke is currently Polk County’s assistant district attorney and special prosecutor in Burnett County. He handles Burnett’s entire criminal caseload in that role.
Rennicke has more than three decades of experience practicing criminal law in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. He’s served as district attorney in Rusk County, assistant district attorney in Douglas and Polk Counties and as criminal defense counsel.
His appointment fills former district attorney Joseph Schieffer’s vacancy. Schieffer resigned in early October. Rennicke will serve the rest of the term ending in January 2021.
